The power of testimony

September 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

During the service today, I was once again reminded of the “tough love” we as Christians have to show the world.  Oftentimes, in the true display of love for our friends, we have to tell them where they stand in relation to God.  And often that’s not a great place to be standing.  Telling someone that they are headed for Hell certainly doesn’t sound like a loving statement.  But I think old Billy Graham shows that sometimes, that’s the statement that’s needed.  Acceptance and Tolerance are nice PC terms, but they don’t cut it when it comes to “coming to the Father.”

So what is needed is truth.  Truth about Jesus, and truth about life without Him just as much.  In the end, however, I don’t think it’s enough.  There’s plenty of people out there pointing out what we’re doing wrong, and in the end, we’ll be as highly regarded as bosses, auditors, and policemen, if we’re lucky.   But we have a truth left.  And that truth is the best truth of all.  It’s the truth about life with Jesus.  It’s testimony.

For those of you who went to the baptism ceremony, you witnessed it first hand.  The truth of Jesus was evident in their lives as they told their story.  And it was powerful.  And it was real.  And it is what the world needs to hear.  Let people hear that, and then let them ask questions.  And then let them hear truthful, “tough love” answers.
